Use a Rein to unlock its corresponding minion. Steam's Take the Reins achievement confirms that action, and the Raptor, Bloodmoon Werewolf and Ancient Oak Treant item descriptions explicitly identify their Reins as permanent unlocks. Owning an item, killing a boss and using a Rein are different things to check.
Check the item before using it
- Read the Rein's full name and the minion it unlocks.
- Read its passive and ability descriptions to decide whether the effects fit your purpose.
- Use the Rein for the unlock described on the item, then check your minion collection.
These steps follow the official item description for Raptor and the official unlock achievement. They do not prescribe an unverified menu shortcut or character level.
Legendary Reins with verified descriptions
| Minion | Effect focus | Detailed reference |
|---|---|---|
| Raptor | Damage over time and critical modifiers | Raptor |
| Bloodmoon Werewolf | Life On Hit and attack speed | Werewolf |
| Ancient Oak Treant | Max Health and healing | Treant |
All three reviewed item listings identify their Reins as Legendary. This is a verified subset, not a complete minion catalog. The Legendary Bond achievement separately tracks unlocking a Legendary Minion; a boss-kill achievement alone does not establish that unlock.
When a Rein does not drop
Launch-week players report different drop experiences. Some found Reins early, while others reported none after several hours. Those reports demonstrate variation, not a reliable percentage or a guarantee after a number of attempts.
Check the item and collection state before assuming a bug. We have not verified a launch-version duplicate filter default, universal trading rule or pity system. Official market listings demonstrate that the listed Rein types have a market entry; they do not prove that every copy you own is eligible. Read the trading guide before treating a spare Rein as sellable. For support choices, compare passives and abilities.
